  • Catalogue text

Continuous design field of stylized trees, similar to Cat. no. 1121 [EA1990.1128] but with the addition of pearl-border surrounds. The plants are red with white and light blue details, the background is blue and filled with additional white tendrils and bunches of fruit.

The reverse shows more dye saturation than the surface. The resist has been drawn by hand. There are remains of blue stitching. The dye analysis has shown that the colorant for red was morindone, from a variety of morinda root, and the colorant for blue was indigotin, probably from a variety of indigo plant. This may be compared to Cat. no. 1113 [EA1990.1120], where the colorant for red was alizarin with purpurin, from Rubia tinctorum L.
