Textile fragment with tendrils, flowers, and arches

Details

  • Catalogue text

A band of arches and small panels filled with floral designs, as in Cat. no. 669 [EA1990.676], brown on a white ground, and an additional pattern of large tendrils and flowers, white with brown outlines against a red ground.

A selvedge is parallel to the pattern band. The white shapes of flowers and tendrils are poorly matched with their brown outlines. The reverse shows less dye saturation than the surface.
