Catalogue text
A wide band filled with hook motifs and diamond patterns; along the two borders is a very narrow band with alternating ?palmette and diamond shapes.
The darning stitches of the wide band move parallel to the selvedge, while the stitches of the narrow border on either side of the band move at right angles to it. The border has smaller stitches than the wide band. In: Barnes, Ruth and Marianne Ellis, ‘The Newberry Collection of Islamic Embroideries’, 4 vols, 2001, Oxford, Ashmolean Museum
