Catalogue text
Large stylized leaves related to the plant design of Cat. no. 1121 [EA1990.1128]. The leaves are red, with blue outlines and centres, and with white ornamental details added. The background is light blue and densely covered with curving white lines, as in Cat. no. 1110 [EA1990.1117].
The colours of the fragment are lighter than previous examples. It is likely that the mordant was applied to the surface, although the dye saturation for red is equal on both sides of the fabric. The reverse shows more saturation for the blue. In: Barnes, Ruth, Indian Block-Printed Textiles in Egypt: The Newberry Collection in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, 2 vols (Oxford: Clarendon Press, 1997)
