Catalogue text
A motif of peacocks facing each other, flanking a tree, is arranged symmetrically four times around a central floral design with a cross in the middle. The resist defines the design, the background is blue.
The fabric is sewn into a round shape, following the design. It may have been used as a jar or jug cover, or as a filter. In: Barnes, Ruth, Indian Block-Printed Textiles in Egypt: The Newberry Collection in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, 2 vols (Oxford: Clarendon Press, 1997)
