Catalogue text
A continuous design of stylized, red plants surrounded by white tendrils on a blue ground, identical to Cat. no. 1117 [EA1990.1124].
There are stitches in two corners, probably modern. The reverse shows more dye saturation than the surface. The resist was apparently drawn on by hand. The fragment is identical in design and technical detail to Cat. no. 1117 [EA1990.1124], and possibly was originally part of the same fabric. A similar fragment was found at Quseir al-Qadim (see Vogelsang-Eastwood 1990: 34 and 86).In: Barnes, Ruth, Indian Block-Printed Textiles in Egypt: The Newberry Collection in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, 2 vols (Oxford: Clarendon Press, 1997)
