Catalogue text
The main design field is divided into rectangular shapes, the largest with a version of the stylized plant pattern of Cat. no. 1107 [EA1990.1114]. It is blue, white, and red on a red ground that is filled with white tendrils. In addition there are smaller rectangles, filled with cross-hatching or red dots on a blue ground, all with a wavy outline. A band follows, with single blue leaves on a red ground.
The reverse shows more dye saturation than the surface. The design is related to that of a fragment found at Quseir al-Qadim (see Vogelsang-Eastwood 1990).In: Barnes, Ruth, Indian Block-Printed Textiles in Egypt: The Newberry Collection in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, 2 vols (Oxford: Clarendon Press, 1997)
