Catalogue text
Wang Yiting, also known as Wang Zhen, was a pupil of the Shanghai School master Ren Yi (1840-95), and later of Wu Changshuo, whose influence is evident in the calligraphy on this painting; its momentum and rapid execution are also aspects of his style attributable to the period after 1914 when he first met Wu Changshuo. Gao Zanyou, also known as Gao Jian (1634-1707), was a landscape painter and poet from Suzhou.
