Catalogue text
A continuous design that can be read in two ways: either as linked, overlapping circles with a small, red rosette at the centre, or as linked, blue quatrefoils with the rosettes set between the leaves. The design is identical to Cat. no. 1092 [EA1990.1099].
The fragment is sewn together from four pieces, with some attention paid to match the design. The reverse shows more dye saturation than the surface. One fragment found at Quseir al-Qadim possibly has the same design of linked quatrefoils (see Vogelsang-Eastwood 1990: Cat. no. 57).In: Barnes, Ruth, Indian Block-Printed Textiles in Egypt: The Newberry Collection in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, 2 vols (Oxford: Clarendon Press, 1997)
