Recto: Figures capturing wild elephants
Verso: Portraits of nobles and courtiers
Partly through growing European influence, the art of portraiture flourished under the Mughals as never before in India. Splendidly bound albums were assembled, containing portraits of princes, courtiers and others. Here six unrelated earlier portraits have been artfully joined in a group against a pale green ground with floral decoration.
