    Vatican, Museo Pio Clementino, Galleria delle Statue, inv. 748.

    Found on the Caelian Hill in Rome. In the Mattei collection from 1614 until purchased by the Vatican.

    The Mattei statue of wounded Amazon. 2nd century AD, copy of statue of c. 440 BC.

    Modern: the left shoulder, some folds (especially between the thighs), the edge of the chiton where it falls off the shoulder behind, right knee and shank, part of the left shank, the upper two thirds of the tree-trunk and of the shield and axe. The modern arms, neck, helmet-crest, and head have been removed in the cast.
