  • Catalogue text

Two pieces sewn together; the larger, red one with diagonally printed bands at right angles to each other, with a stylized vine made up from dots, and another band with rosettes and diamonds, identical to Cat. no. 531 [EA1990.538]. The smaller fragment is dyed blue, with arches probably representing large petals, and the same beaded, stylized vine as in the red fragment; the same combination of designs appears in Cat. no. 211 [EA1990.219]. The patterns are white against a red or blue background.

The two pieces are sewn back to back, with stitching all around the blue fragment. The purpose of the sewing is not clear. The design is slightly blurred on the reverse of the red fragment, while the reverse of the blue piece is saturated with dye.
