Textile fragment with squares with quatrefoils, rectangles, and swirling tendrils

Details

  • Catalogue text

A border of alternating squares and rectangles, the square filled with an ornate quatrefoil, the rectangle with a pointed oval which has leaf terminals. In addition there is a large design of swirling tendrils with flower heads and a fragment of a ?circle. The resist defines the design, the background is blue.

Selvedge. The border band was probably block-printed, but the field of swirling plants may have had the resist applied by hand.
