Catalogue text
A sequence of three bands parallel to each other; all three have the same width (6.5 cm) and design, although the colouring alternates between black and red. The centre of the band has a row of linked squares, each filled with a cross, and a border of triangles with a row of single leaves on the outside. The central band is brown with red borders, the outer bands are red with brown borders.
Along both long sides is a stitched hem with a spaced cross stitch. The central band also has two single rows of cross stitches. In: Barnes, Ruth and Marianne Ellis, ‘The Newberry Collection of Islamic Embroideries’, 4 vols, 2001, Oxford, Ashmolean Museum
