Zhang Shuqi was from Pujiang in Zhejiang province. He studied painting under Liu Haisu in Shanghai and later taught at the National Central University, moving with them to Sichuan in 1937. He went to the United States from 1942, returning to China in 1946, but later settled in America. He is particularly known for bird and flower painting.
