Catalogue text
Two types of linked cartouches, one version white with brown dots and a small brown medallion at the centre, the other red with two stylized white tendrils, each with a heart shape attached, as well as a brown central medallion. Both versions share the undulating border and small cartouches that link the medallions. The shapes complement each other, as in tile work.
Remains of stitching. The size of the block used was 11 cm. x 8.5 cm. The reverse shows less dye saturation than the surface. In: Barnes, Ruth, Indian Block-Printed Textiles in Egypt: The Newberry Collection in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, 2 vols (Oxford: Clarendon Press, 1997)
