Textile fragment with squares, rosettes, and interlocking quatrefoils

Details

  • Catalogue text

A narrow band of interlocking quatrefoils, with a row of beads on either side; the main design area has two diagonal rows of squares with an eight-petalled rosette inside each, as well as elongated s-shapes and small quatrefoils. The pattern is white in outline against a red ground.

Selvedge, with remains of stitching along it. The edge of the block is visible, as the patterns do not match. The design is blurred on the reverse.
