Textile fragment with curving tendrils

Details

  • Catalogue text

A wide band with large, light brown, curving tendrils ending in blue flowers or vine leaves; the design has brown, dotted outlines and is set on a light red ground. A second design shows fine, brown, interlacing tendrils with light red quatrefoils on a white ground. Some blue blotches are added.

Selvedge at right angles to the design band. The reverse shows less dye saturation for brown and red, but more for blue.
