Catalogue text
A narrow band of cable pattern and a border of interlace; the design continues on the following fragment, Cat. no. 379 [EA1990.381]. It is white set against a reddish brown background.
The outlines of the design are slightly blurred on the reverse. The interlace design is inspired by script. Similar patterns can be seen on 15th-century metalwork from Syria and Iraq. In: Barnes, Ruth, Indian Block-Printed Textiles in Egypt: The Newberry Collection in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, 2 vols (Oxford: Clarendon Press, 1997)
