Catalogue text
Two medallions, both outlined in brown on a white ground; one is red with white dots, the other is white with a red centre. In addition there is a red band with white dots, and a white band with red dots. The pattern is identical to Cat. no. 884 [EA1990.890].
The fragment is in very poor condition, and the design can only partly be read. The reverse shows little dye saturation. The similarity to the previous textile [EA1990.890], both in technical details and in design, suggest that both were part of the same fabric. In: Barnes, Ruth, Indian Block-Printed Textiles in Egypt: The Newberry Collection in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, 2 vols (Oxford: Clarendon Press, 1997)
