Two figures on a boat in a mountainous landscape
Li Xiongcai was born in Zhaoqing, Guangdong province. He was a pupil of the Lingnan School master Gao Jianfu (1879-1951) in the latter’s Chunshui Art Studio. Li is widely regarded as an exponent of the Lingnan School of painting and, as such, his paintings exude an affinity with nature, a very carefully crafted artistry and a judicious use of ink and brush strokes. This landscape is traditional in style and the use of dark ink with a dry brush, as in the foreground of this painting, is a typical feature of his work.
