Enamelled bronze brooch in the form of a stag

On display

This enamelled bronze brooch in the shape of a stag, once decorated with bright multi-coloured enamel, would have been used to fasten a shawl or cloak.

Enamelled jewellery was very popular in Britain and France during the Roman period.

The vast Roman empire encouraged the movement of people, ideas and fashions. Styles of dress and jewellery became widespread with some personal items travelling long distances with their owners. Some distinctive local fashions did continue to thrive.
