Vatican, Museo Chiaramonti, Braccio Nuovo, inv. 2255.
From Tusculum in Italy(?) Known since 1709 as part of the Aldobrandini Collection, from where it was purchased in 1823 by Pope Pius VII.
Demosthenes wears himation and sandals. He clasps his hands (now missing) in front of him, and looks down to his right. 1st-2nd century AD, copy of statue of c. 280 BC by Polyeuktos, set up in the Agora of Athens.
Modern: the forepart of the nose, part of the neck, many folds of the himation, the right heel, the greater part of the plinth, and many details.In: Frederiksen, Rune, and R.R.R.
