Textile fragment with plants and vines

Details

  • Catalogue text

Plant shapes encircled with beaded dots, as well as floral vines. The design is similar to Cat. no. 1122 [EA1990.1129 and related fragments]. The resist defines the pattern, the background is blue. The inside of the plant shapes were formerly rose-coloured.

Only once the fragment had been removed from its cardboard sheet was it apparent that it had been mordant-dyed in addition to the indigo bath. The rose-coloured shade has disappeared from the front of the textile, but it is still visible on the back.
