Tsuba in the form of four leaves

Details

  • Catalogue text

Elongated lozenge shape with lobed edges, formed as four leaves champlevé-enamelled green, leaving the venation and edge in reserve; the back unfinished and slightly concave.

Adapted, by the cutting of a tang-hole and kozuka-hole, from a kugikakushi ("nail-hide"), an ornamental stud used to conceal unsightly constructional nails in architectural interior woodwork.
