Catalogue text
Continuous pattern of red, six-petalled rosettes; the petals are linked. The background is white.
Two fragments are sewn together with a flat seam; there is additional stitching and remains of a cotton patch on the reverse. The pattern is equally precise on front and reverse. As there is no trace of red on the white background, it is likely that the mordant was stamped. In: Barnes, Ruth, Indian Block-Printed Textiles in Egypt: The Newberry Collection in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, 2 vols (Oxford: Clarendon Press, 1997)
