Textile fragment, possibly from a sash or belt

Details

  • Catalogue text

The textile has bands of tapestry weave with designs of hexagons containing inscriptions, S-shapes, diamonds, and linked hook designs.

The tapestry weft is woven with blue and undyed flax thread, 2-ply and then s-spun. The narrow shape suggests that it was part of a sash or belt. It is made up from two pieces sewn together with a flat seam.
