Textile fragment with rosettes, squares, and leaves

Details

  • Catalogue text

A continuous field with large rosettes, squares, and paired leaves. The design has fine, brown outlines as well as white surrounds, but otherwise it is red. Towards the selvedge there also is a border band with a row of ?rosettes, badly faded.

Selvedge. The reverse shows very slightly more dye saturation than the surface. Apparently two blocks were used for the continuous design, both measuring 18 cm. x 18 cm.
