Textile fragment with tendrils, stylized leaves, and rosettes

Details

  • Catalogue text

A continuous field of tendrils and stylized leaves, with small rosettes attached. The design is white against a dark red background.

A curving hem is stitched with flax thread, while remains of stitching across the fragment are of silk. The dye saturation is equal on surface and reverse, so that it is not possible to determine the method of mordant application. The size of the block used was 10.5 cm. x 8.5 cm.
