Textile fragment with part of a large medallion

Details

  • Catalogue text

Part of a large medallion, possibly a semi-circle, made up from large, ornate petals and pearl-border roundels, as in Cat. no. 941 [EA1990.947]. The pattern is defined by brown outlines, and the ground is either white, red, or blue.

Selvedge, with the semi-circle printed up to it. The reverse shows less presence of red and brown than the surface, while there is a heavy saturation of blue. Similarities of design and technical details suggest that this fragment was once part of Cat. no. 941 [EA1990.947].
