Textile fragment with bands of crosses and medallions

Details

  • Catalogue text

Three parallel bands; two have rows of small, pink crosses, and a third one in the middle has medallions separated by single rosettes. The medallions have a blue frame. The bands are separated by very narrow borders with inverted semicircles, possibly a highly stylized version of a running vine. The patterns are comparable to the narrow bands of Cat. no. 909 [EA1990.915].

The pink design is more carefully applied than the blue details. The reverse shows slightly more dye saturation than the surface.
