Details

  • Catalogue text

Bands of zigzag and trefoils, bands of chevrons, and a border band of bodhi tree leaves, all as in Cat. no. 568 [EA1990.575]. The pattern is red or brown against a white ground, with the exception of the bodhi leaves which are white against a red ground.

A selvedge with remains of coarse stitching along it, and additional stitching with fine, yellow thread. The reverse is heavily saturated with red dye, although possibly the mordant for the brown details was stamped.
